E-Wallpaper Progress

These are the steps of my e-wallpaper Day of The Dead festival.

Here are the pictures that i used for my e-wallpaper

A picture of a boat ofrenda(offering)

A picture of a sky

Here are the steps:

Step 1: I opened the picture in photoshop to crop it

Step 2: I used the Quick Selection Tool to erase the background. I find it easier using this tool to erase the background.

Step 3: I also used the Magic Wand Tool to erase the background at certain spots.

Step 4: As you can see, the background has been erased. I used the Eraser Tool to erase any excess of the background.

Step 5: I created another layer and inserted the sky picture.

Step 6: I changed the brightness and the contrast of the picture of the boat ofrenda to fit with the sky.

Step 7: I added 2 text using the Type Tool and added Layer style(drop shadow and outer glow) i accidentally ticked the Bevel and Emboss button when i print screen it, i dont use it though. For the font, i used the Chiller font.

Step 8: For the text "dia de los muertos", i changed the colour overlay to red. I didn't like the colour of the flowers on the boat ofrenda because it seems too bright and doesn't fit with the sky. So i selected the flowers using the Quick Selection Tool.

Step 9: After selecting the flowers, i go to image>adjustment>exposure. I change the Exposure to -1.55 and the Gamma Correction to 0.95 to make the flowers fit in with the sky.

Step 10: Finished!!!

HERE'S THE FINISHED E-WALLPAPER!!

Workspace Introduction

Before we can start designing, we need to create a workspace. Here are some simple steps to create a workspace:

Firstly, when you open Photoshop(i use Photoshop CS4) it will look like this

Click on the "File" button and select "New". You can also press "Ctrl + N" for shorcut.

After you've clicked the "New" button, a window will appear. You can rename the workspace now or you can rename it later when you save it. Change the preset to "International Paper" or any preset that you want. You can also change the size of the paper. Then, click the "OK" button.

Finally, the workspace will look like this!

E-WALLPAPER

Okay, so for the e-wallpaper I've decided to do the Day of The Dead festival or in Spanish: Dia De Los Muertos.

This festival is celebrated in Mexico and by Mexican Americans living in the United States and Canada. The festival focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember family and friends who have died.

The celebration occurs on November 2Traditions connected with the festival include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts.

This festival is sometimes thought to be similar with Halloween due to it's occurrence shortly after Halloween. But the two festivals have little in common and are NOT the same.

The Day of the Dead is a time of celebration, where partying and eating is common.

Here's some pictures of the festival:

Partying and celebrating Dia De Los Muertos(Day of The Dead)

Wearing costumes for the celebration

Day of The Dead ofrenda(offerings)

Catrinas, one of the most popular figures of the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico

I chose this festival because i have always wondered what this festival is all about. I find it very interesting and creepy at the same time. I could've chosen a festival that i'm very familiar with like the Hari Raya, but i want to do something different so i choose the Dia De Los Muertos(Day of The Dead) festival.
